By default, Providence displays lists of entities by first name. But there are times when you need to see a list of entities sorted by last name. To do this, you need to create a new “display” and then filter a later search using that display.

First, you’ll need to create a customized “display” for entities:

1. Go to “Manage” and “My Displays.” Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 6.14.32 PM

 2. Chose an Entity Display.

3. Give the display a relevant title, add access for users, then save.

4. Pull the fields relevant to the display, in this case, Entity Names, as well as related occurrences & objects, then save.

5. Then start your search for entities and use this new display to filter your search: Go back to find and select this new display from your list of displays and save, also selecting sort by surname, then search.

¬†That should do it; now you’ve got a list of entities that appear in alphabetical order by last name.
